The Most Surprising Part of Life

I feel energetic, so I’m going to publish two posts today ๐Ÿ˜„

I enjoyed the WordPress writing prompts, and then I couldn’t see them anymore, so I wrote to WP. I got this reply: Thanks for your patience. The Daily Prompt feature has been removed at this time, and not sure if it will come back later or not.

So, I will be using prompts from this book now:

500 Journal Prompts by Robert Duff, PH.D.

What part of life has surprised you the most?

The most surprising part of life for me has been just how long it feels.

I know, I know. People say “life’s too short,” and I’m sure I’ll think that someday. But right now, where I am in life, I just feel like I have lived so much.

Maybe it’s because my life has changed so drastically every 5-10 years (and not always by my own doing). Like when I uprotted from Puerto Rico and moved to the United States at age 9. That was a HUGE change. Or when I was on my own at age 16, only seven years after that. Then I moved to Texas, California, and other states pretty much every 3-5 years!!!

And my life is a bit out of the usual order, as well. For instance, I graduated college in my 30’s and had my first child at nearly 40! So I’m living right now where most of my friends were 10 or 15 years ago.

I’ve also changed drastically, so that it feels like I’ve lived several lifetimes. I used to be very philosophical, then new age, now Christian (now and forever). I started out my life very liberal (or at least what I would call politically agnostic, as I had no time to think, just work) and now I’m more conservative in my views, in how I dress, in my values.

When I look back, I’m just very surprised about everything I’ve been through, seen, and experienced. I’m surprised that even though everyone says life is too short, at this time it feels very long!

Do you have a part of life that has surprised you?

I really would love to know!

Take care and God bless,

  1. I used to be such a control freak and thought that, with effort, everything would go my way. I was surprised when that didn’t turn out to be true, though I’m learning to appreciate and enjoy the unexpected twists and turns. P.S. I loved learning a bit more about you and where life has taken you. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  2. I just checked and the writing prompts are indeed still available on the jetpack app!

For me, the most surprising part of life is when people remember me, like you did. I’ve moved countries, continents so many times, I feel that people will forget me unless I remind them of my existence every now and again. And most people, including myself, like to be remembered!

But every now and again, out of the blue, a really random person will message me to say hi. I remember a quote and it was about how sometimes we feel that all we do is give but don’t get back in return, but actually we do – just not always from the same person.

    • I see the prompts again! I got the Jetpack app after another blogger friend recommended it ๐Ÿ˜Š

And yes I remembered you! I always thought it was so cool that you lived in Korea. You also seem so down to earth and honest, like you’d speak your mind and never b.s. me in the comments ๐Ÿ˜ That’s just the impression I got.

I think we have an effect on people, sometimes without realizing it, and hopefully for the better โค๏ธ
